ABOUT ME
I've always been a writer.
Before I preached a sermon or stood behind a pulpit, I scribbled detective tales in my grandma's office. I enjoy the challenge of shaping words that move people and balancing precision with artfulness.
Over time, writing became more than a hobby. It became a way to process life, ask hard questions, and, eventually, explore what it means to follow Jesus with everything.
Today, I serve as the teaching pastor of Denver Street Baptist Church in Greenwood, Arkansas. My wife, Michelle, and I are raising Irish twins who keep us grounded. In ministry, I care about relational discipleship, biblical theology, and associational work among churches. I thank God for the privilege of walking with people as they learn to live out the gospel in the real, everyday grit of life.
Why This Blog Exists
Living Out the Gospel is the home base for my writing ministry. It's where theology meets real life. It's where I wrestle with questions, unpack Scripture, and reflect on what it means to follow Jesus in a noisy, complex world.
This blog exists for people trying to live with a gospel-shaped purpose. Whether you're a pastor, parent, student, or skeptic, my hope is that what you read here draws you deeper into truth in practice.
I believe stories matter. They help us see God's fingerprints in the ordinary. They remind us that discipleship isn't a one-time decision but a lifelong journey. That's why I write. That's why this blog exists.
Derrick desires to see all believers become thriving, disciple-making community members that equip others for mission and service. Through writing, teaching, and pastoral care, he is committed to strengthening the faith of believers and providing practical tools for spiritual growth. His writing aims to enrich and equip believers to live gospel-centered lives in a complex and ever-changing world.
