Green Pastors Seeking Greener Pastures
This column appears in The Baptist Trumpet weekly. In addition to Derrick’s column, a wealth of information, inspiration, and opportunities to become involved in the work of the Baptist Missionary Association can be found in this periodical. Check it out for yourself!
The Soil of Discipleship
Discipleship is more than a curriculum or church program. Mature Christians grow where Scripture is treasured, prayer is practiced, questions are welcomed, faithfulness is modeled, and believers intentionally share their lives with one another.
The Ordinary Grace of Struggle
Technology can deliver biblical information instantly, but it cannot perform the formative work of discipleship. Spiritual maturity develops as believers patiently study Scripture, pray, wrestle with difficult truths, and submit themselves to God.
Finding Someone Worth Following
Choosing a discipler requires more than finding someone successful or impressive. Scripture directs believers toward humble, teachable Christians whose continuing growth in Christlikeness makes them worth following.
Every Christian Needs a Discipleship Plan
Spiritual maturity does not happen automatically. Every Christian needs an intentional plan shaped by Scripture, prayer, worship, fellowship, service, and relationships that help us grow–and help others grow–in Christ.
